RE: Can we plug a dealership here?

Dewalts RV in Easton Pa has been fantastic. They have gone out of their way for my wife and I. Great service, helpful in answering questions and helping in descicions. All of this and the trailer never even came from their lot!

RE: Maxxair vent covers - have you used them?

Have one on our rig. Have had no problems, keeps rain out while letting the air in. They are easy to install, and I keep my vent cracked open all winter for ventilation. Works great.

RE: brake controler

I agree with webslave. This sounds like it may be an intermitant connection failure. Get under there and wiggle, lightly twist, bounce, and or give a light tug on everything and see if the problem resurfaces. I would also inspect for a corroded connection somewhere. Connections should be repaired as needed and the joint sealed against weather with heat shrink and then oversealed with silicon sealer if an outside splice. Good luck, wiring can be a real treat sometimes.

RE: Tips for putting trailer on blocks ?1

Don, I think I need to through my hat in the ring with Jay. I have seen the results of lifting and supporting a trailer by the four corners and letting the center hang (I think that is what is being proposed). My wifes cousin did this and ended up with severe structural damage. The center sagged, things no longer aligned, the door won't stay closed anymore, and the frame is bent nearly 2". The jacks are there to STABILIZE the trailer, thus the name "stabilizer jacks". They were never intended to lift and support the full weight of the rig. You can absolutely support the four corners of the trailer as long as you support the center section as well, say a column on either side of the axle. I would also check the supports frequently, especially at first and after really wet weather to ensure that they do not settle in a inconsistant way. Just my 2 cents worth.

RE: Awning Replacement

They are not usually that difficult to replace. Take some detail pictures prior to starting for reference and dig in. The main roller is under spring tension, but has a provision to "pin" or "lock" the spring with a 8 penny nail or similar. Prior to replcing the entire awning (if that is the intention) check into replcement parts or canvas. They are usually avail. at a fraction of the cost and work involved versus replacing the entire unit.

RE: Can I add a

I use a friction sway control on my 19' FAN. This was added to a Reese "type" setup made by Draw Tite, a sister company of Reese. It works just fine. For these smaller, lighter weight trailers a Dual Cam sway control or similar is over kill and can do more harm that good. If the trailer grosses under 5,000 lb. a single sway control is more than enough and makes the ride much more enjoyable. I use the pro series sway control. I have used the Reese set up in the past. There really is no difference that I can find, other than the added cost for the name. Concerning the tires, I tow with radials LT tires all the time. Would not go back to the bias ply, trailers tire ever. I have no trouble with them, and they last longer to boot.

RE: Do Dealers Carry Good/Better/Best Anti-Sway / WDH Set Ups

BINGO! and don't let them try to sell you into a cheap friction sway control. Nothing wrong with friction sway control. Depends on what you are pulling. For a smaller light weight rig, the friction sway control works fine. When I was setting up my rig, I was advised by several members of this forum that the dual cam set ups were to heavy and were not recomended.

RE: Well thanks a lot guys...

Very nice rig. Looks to be in decent shape. Just went through the same sort of project last year on a 1970 FAN Style Liner. Spent the majority of the summer working it over. The wife and I had a blast. What a feeling when you go on the first "voyage" with it and you get evryone looking it over at the CG. Makes it all worth the time and sweat. Like others have stated, you are saving a small piece of American history and getting a better built unit to boot. Just take you time, ask questions and keep picturing the unit finished. I found that is the key to keeping motivated, picture it finished.

RE: 454 timing: Can't find brown wire

That really should not ping at all after the timing is set correctly to the decal spec under the hood. Those have a knock sensor attached to the block that reports engine ping to the ecm. If a ping or knock occures, the ecm will adjust the timing at the distributor to compensate. It is continually adjusting the timing to get the max. amount of spark advance without ping or knock. The manual adjustment of the base timing is to adjust for wear in the timing components in the engine (dist. gear, timing chain and sprockets, etc.) Hope this helps.;)

RE: What are your opinions?

I have been wondering the same thing myself. I have seen a lot of the larger trailers (5ers in particular) already on the market and the local dealers admit that they are not moving much in the way of class C's and class A's. I do not know where we are all headed. May end up using mine in my yard. Figures, finally got the one I really like, can't afford to take it out of the yard.:R

RE: 320 Ft/lb torque wrench for final setup on Equalizer?

Yeh, I agree with Big Johnson. Most garages will have a torque wrench that will hit that range. Most garages are supplied by Snap-On and their wrenches can hit upwards of 350 lb. ft. Give them a shot.

RE: Does anyone here not have a tub surround?

Our 1970 Fan has no surround and is basically as shipped from the factory. Had the wall apart (outside) to replace some of the outer skin. 38 years old and no rot, solid as can be.

RE: Help for a Concerned Newbie!

I agree with TRNFLA. We had an issue with our plumbing last year during a re-build. The pipes were solid using the on board pump, but would leak using the city water hook up due to the additional water pressure. The city water had a bit more pressure even with a regulator. We ended up going over every joint / connection with a wad of toilet paper. fastest way to find a leak is with T.P.

RE: Electronic tire pressure gauge

I agree. I have a electronic gauge that my wife got me. I checked it against a dial gauge and it is about + 5 psi. In other words it reads about 5 psi over the actual. The way I look at it is this. You still need to bend over, take the cap off, press the gauge to the stem and read the results. I would rather be sure the reading is correct. Bonus point, you do not need batteries in the mechanical gauges.

RE: What's this 12' '74 Bellevue Worth?

Your first / gut feeling is usually the right one. If this didn't pan out, figure that there is a better one out there for less money. I looked at a dozen or so after deciding to shop seriously. Almost bought one, gut told me to hold off and look a bit more. On the drive home, wondering if I made the right choice, I found the right one. Exactly what I wanted, and several hundred buck less. Be patient, it pays in the end one way or the other.
